Providing community mental health supports within multicultural Canada

The Honourable Karen Redman, MP Kitchener Centre, the Honourable Ken Seiling, Chair, Waterloo Region, and the Honourable Carl Zehr, Mayor of the City of Kitchener, are among the dignitaries who will be celebrating the launch of a $1.2 million research project linking universities and community partners in Waterloo Region and Toronto. The project will explore innovative ways of providing community mental health supports within multicultural Canada. The five-year project is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

"SSHRC is delighted that such a strong team has come together to find new ways to support the mental health needs of Canadians," said Marc Renaud, president of SSHRC. "This research investment will help ensure that health care practitioners have the knowledge and tools needed to deliver services in ways that are respectful and culturally-appropriate."
